![]() ![]() A close relationship between empathy and emotion regulation has been proposed by previous theoretical accounts, including our own (e.g., Decety, 2010 Schipper & Peterman, 2013 Thompson et al., 2019 Zaki, 2014). Emotion regulation refers to the various processes that can be employed in order to influence one’s own emotions (Gross, 2015). These findings point to the need for assessing the different components of empathy in psychopathological conditions marked by difficulties in emotion regulation.Įmpathy is commonly conceptualised as comprising two dimensions: affective empathy (the ability to share others’ emotions), and cognitive empathy (the ability to infer/ understand others’ emotional experiences Chakrabarti & Baron-Cohen, 2006 Decety & Jackson, 2004 Singer & Lamm, 2009). Together, these studies demonstrate that greater cognitive empathy was broadly associated with improved emotion regulation abilities, while greater affective empathy was typically associated with increased difficulties with emotion regulation. In the Emotional Stroop task, higher cognitive empathy was associated with reduced emotional interference no such relationship was observed for affective empathy. Higher affective empathy was associated with increased emotional interference in the Emotional Go/NoGo task no such relationship was observed for trait cognitive empathy. Trait cognitive and affective empathy were differentially related to both task metrics. In the second study ( N = 92), the magnitude of emotion interference effects (i.e., the extent to which inhibitory control was impacted by emotional relative to neutral stimuli) in variants of a Go/NoGo and Stroop task were used as proxy measures of implicit emotion regulation abilities. Trait emotion dysregulation was negatively related to cognitive empathy but did not show a significant relationship with affective empathy. In study 1 ( N = 137), trait cognitive empathy and affective empathy were found to share divergent relationships with self-reported emotion dysregulation. To better understand the interrelationships between their various component processes, this manuscript reports two studies that examined the relationship between empathy and emotion regulation using a combination of self-report and task measures. The constructs of empathy (i.e., understanding and/or sharing another’s emotion) and emotion regulation (i.e., the processes by which one manages emotions) have largely been studied in relative isolation of one another. ![]() ![]() It gives fans and casual viewers a chance to enjoy the fantasy without being stuck in twee boarding school world, and the expanded look at Rowling's wizarding world comes with delightfully colorful creatures and a dandy retro fantasy vibe. And thanks to off-screen controversy (Rowling's outspoken views on Twitter, Johnny Depp's marital difficulties) the Fantastic Beasts series has sputtered like a wonky wand.īut we will say this: the first film is decent. When Warner Bros decided to turn Rowling's slim pamphlet into a sprawling multi-movie franchise, it could be seen as a return to the magic or cynical moneymaking sorcery. (Notably, there won't be a seat for Rowling.) The special, streamed from the London set of the first movie, will hit HBO Max on Jan. 16, 2001 - HBO Max announced it would give Harry Potter the Friends treatment and bring back the main cast, including Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, for a reunion. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the first movie - it premiered in the US Nov. Why stop at plain old Lego sets when you can stuff Lego into a Harry Potter-themed advent calendar? It saw words such as "Apparated" become part of the vernacular (at least among the Potterhead generation) and spawned everything from theme parks (stacked mainly with gift shops), to not-so-warmly-received prequel movies and even Lego advent calendars. ![]() Rowling's books, Apparated onto our screens. It's been 20 years since Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, the first of the Harry Potter film franchise based on J.K. ![]() The Harry Potter 20th Reunion special will hit HBO Max on New Year's Day. ![]() ![]() ![]() Occasionally, this exacerbated some issues with the tracking on two-handed weapons, which would not register one of my hands or an input such as cocking a shotgun or aiming down a scope. More than once, RE4VR put my heart in my throat as I frantically tried to out-maneuver whatever threat was closing in on me. The many impossibly large bosses are also incredibly menacing when you see them towering far overhead. There's an inherent tension to being surrounded by enemies in VR, especially when you become overwhelmed. Moving RE4 into first-person also does a lot for its horror – though it's still not the scariest thing you can play on the market. For the first time in ages, I was no longer going through the motions, and iconic moments like the early village encounter, the El Gigante fights, and the minecart rollercoaster have rarely been more fun. It felt fresh, exciting, and wholly different from every playthrough of RE4 I've had in the last 16 years. I figured RE4 would never feel "new" to me again at this point in my life, but RE4VR completely changed how I played one of my favorite games. From the get-go, I had a blast running around shooting enemies like some virtual reality John Wick. Rather than try and line myself up with a row of enemies, doing as much damage as I can before they reach me, I was constantly on the move, adapting my playstyle to the moment and acting offensively against enemies rather than defensively. Running around a combat arena freely profoundly changes the way enemy engagements work in RE4. I can't recommend it enough it marries the mechanics and story in a way the original never did. RE4VR completely ditches this model if you choose to play with full-motion turned on instead of teleporting. The game pitches Leon as some American Badass action hero, but once you control him, you're still bumbling around like the same old fool of past Resident Evils. ![]() While it was revolutionary for the time, there's an obvious narrative and mechanical dissonance in the original's gameplay. Additionally, he couldn't move while aiming or shooting. But it still featured tank controls, meaning Leon only moved in the direction he was facing. Famously, the original changed the typical third-person camera perspective from fixed angles to the now-modern behind-the-back view. I'm sure I looked like an idiot to all my neighbors constantly staring at my hands, but they didn't know I was looking at a yellow herb up-close-and-personal for the first time – their loss.Ĭombat received the most significant overhaul in RE4VR, and it's what sent me over the moon. Everything can be picked up and examined before you throw it in your inventory. Same with items throughout the world such as keys, money, and herbs. I had a great time holding up iconic weapons like the Red9 handgun and Striker shotgun and getting a good look at the added detail. It feels as-close-as-possible to doing it in real life, even if you are more or less just playing Tetris with guns. The giant interactable attache case where protagonist Leon Kennedy holds all his weapons and gear is a blast to assemble in VR. As someone who's played the original more times than I count, getting the chance to see a 1:1 recreation of RE4's levels, characters, and monsters was constantly amusing.Ĭhanges specifically made for VR are also welcome in most cases. Being effectively a remaster of a 16 -year-old game, RE4VR shows its age at times – mainly when up close to certain muddy textures and assets – but it doesn't look bad by any means. There's an immediate novelty to the game's perspective shift – bringing it into first-person allows an intimate look at the game's world third-person could never afford. However, if you have played Resident Evil 4 – especially if you've completed it numerous times over the years – then RE4VR should be played at all costs.Īs the name implies, RE4VR is just that. If you've never touched the original RE4, then by no means should you jump into this version everything that made (and makes, for that matter) it important would completely go over your head in VR. I'm of two minds when it comes to whether or not someone should play Resident Evil 4 VR. ![]() ![]() Altera Usb Blaster There is no VGA output on my DE2 when thDE2_70 Control Panele default factory program is running where it was successful in the past.ĭownload the latest version of the DE2 default program to fix the issue. ![]() On September 21, 2021, it was announced that a new spin-off series, to be a follow-up for both the show and the movie, had been greenlit for Cartoon Network and HBO Max alongside the film. On February 17, 2021, Cartoon Network announced on Twitter that an Amazing World of Gumball film was in development. Later in November 2018, a six-episode miniseries titled Darwin's Yearbook was announced, followed by another miniseries titled The Gumball Chronicles in October 2020. Though Bocquelet would retweet an article stating that the sixth season would be the last, the author of that article would make a follow up post clarifying that the series may continue. On September 6, 2016, Ben Bocquelet announced he would be departing production of Gumball upon completing the sixth season but production will continue without him. On June 22, 2016, Cartoon Network renewed the series for a sixth season which would consist of 44 episodes. Both seasons combined consisted of 40 eleven-minute episodes. On June 2, 2014, Cartoon Network announced that the series had been renewed a fourth and fifth season. ![]() The first series to be greenlit by Cartoon Network Studios Europe, The Amazing World of Gumball premiered on with the episode "The DVD", which was watched by 2.120 million viewers in the United States. He pitched the series to Daniel Lennard, vice president of Original Series and Development at Turner Broadcasting, who was impressed by the series' premise and ultimately greenlit its production. As Cartoon Network was heavily interested in "family and school shows" at the time, Bocquelet decided to make the series a kid series called The Amazing World of Gumball which was a combination of both. Having been asked by the network to pitch an idea for a new series for Adult Swim, he took sketches of several unused characters he had created for commercials and started developing a concept for a new series based on them. ![]() ![]() Vans are heavy and cumbersome, bikes are light and peppy. ![]() In the DS game there are several dozen different vehicles roaming around and parked in the city, and each of these vehicles has distinct handling – they're not the same model with a different skin. If you see a car, simply take it and drive – there may be some repercussions for your thievery but anything with wheels is yours to have. The way to explore the city is pretty much what made Grand Theft Auto such an addictive design. The DS city is still its own layout with its own back alleys, shortcuts, and bypasses, but the game retains the regional "boroughs" idea, and the entire city is open from the start for players to explore at their own leisure. Liberty City tends to evolve with each game Rockstar creates, but for Chinatown Wars the DS development team matched up its version of the city with Grand Theft Auto's metropolis pretty closely. So while the game may take a different direction in the way it's presented, the gameplay is entirely current-generation GTA. It's similar but it's not the same: though the viewpoint is above the action, the visuals down below are nearly entirely 3D: buildings, cars, obstacles are fully rendered in 3D, and this is important to note because objects interact and react in the same way as they would in the latest renditions of the series: cars flip, jump and tumble if you're a little wild on the gas pedal light poles topple over into traffic. The camera returns to a top-down perspective in similar fashion to the classic Grand Theft Auto and Grand Theft Auto 2. Rockstar Leeds took nearly every aspect of the console design and jammed it into a Nintendo DS cartridge, tweaking the presentation to fit the restrictions and limitations of the Nintendo hardware. What isn't a spoiler is the gameplay: Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is tried-and-true GTA design. The story takes some bobs, weaves, twists and turns in the single-player campaign, and we'll leave the surprises for you to discover on your own. That's where the player begins their Liberty City underworld career on the Nintendo DS. Unfortunately for Huang, he's ambushed upon arrival, his sword stolen, and he's tossed for dead into the harbor. Huang's father, a Triad boss, was mysteriously slain and this sword must pass from his possession to his brother. Chinatown Wars opens with Huang Lee on his way to Liberty City to deliver a symbolic sword to his Uncle Kenny. GTA: Chinatown Wars might shift some things around and pair the big picture down, but the scope remains the same: it's a tremendous game, both in scale and in fun. ![]() The same team responsible for the PSP versions hunkered down to build a unique GTA experience for the Nintendo DS platform and succeeds admirably. We've already seen handheld renditions of the Grand Theft Auto open-world design: the PlayStation Portable has supported two games in the series that came extremely close to the quality of the PlayStation 2 renditions. So when Rockstar branches out its series in new directions, you take notice: Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is a GTA game specifically tailored for the Nintendo DS platform, and while the Nintendo DS may be the weakest current generation system in terms of hardware power, Rockstar doesn't let that get in the way of producing one of the deepest and extremely fulfilling chapters in the Grand Theft Auto saga. Other studios have tried to capture that same vibe in their own titles with various levels of success, but for better or worse none have been able to dethrone GTA as the game that's synonymous with the open world genre. Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto series is easily the epitome of the open world "sandbox" game design. ![]() |
